National Parks Campaign

Group Project With Sophia Schieszer

GOAL: This campaign was created for the National Parks Foundation to educate visitors on how to preserve the parks by following Leave No Trace principles during their visits.

WHERE: Components of the campaign will be implemented in the National Parks through Visitor Centers and trails, as well as on social media.

WHY: National Parks are heavily impacted by millions of visitors each year. Uninformed visitors who walk off trails, leave litter, and interact with wildlife negatively impact the Parks through soil erosion, harm to wildlife, and ecological damage. Beyond the ecological damage, these actions create a massive financial burden, costing taxpayers billions of dollars in maintenance that overstretched park budgets cannot cover. Following simple principles like staying on the trail properly and disposing of waste helps keep the National Parks healthy and thriving.

WHO: The target audience for this campaign is children and young adults who frequently visit National Parks. The audience cares about climate change, nature, and documenting their trips through photography.

Social Media Photo Competition

People can take photos of the parks and share them on social media using the hashtags #StayInYourPlaceLeaveNoTrace and #TakeAPictureInstead. This helps raise awareness of the campaign and encourages others to follow Leave No Trace Principle 4: leave what you find.

The Stamp Card and Swag Pack

The Stamp Card is handed out to visitors at the National Parks Visitor’s Center. After completing the punch card, turn it in at the visitor center to receive a swag pack that includes a tote bag, Keychain, disposable camera, reusable water bottle, and a sticker sheet.
